The clear waters surrounding the Komodo National Park provide an ideal habitat for an abundance of colorful creatures, from shimmering schools of tropical fish to majestic mantas and elusive dugongs.
One of the main draws of diving in Komodo is the opportunity to come face-to-face with the famous Komodo dragons. These magnificent beasts are the largest living species of lizard, and are only found on the Indonesian islands of Komodo, Rinca, and Flores.
Komodo Island, along with Rinca and Padar, is one of the three larger islands and 26 islets that form the World Heritage-listed, Komodo National Park, a veritable wonder of nature best known as the natural habitat of the legendary Komodo Dragon, the planet’s largest lizard species – males can measure up to 3 m (10 ft) in length and weigh up to 90 kg (200 lb) – that has roamed the region for more than 900,000 years. Komodo Island tours not only offer the opportunity for thrilling encounters with these elusive, scaly, fork-tongued dragons, but with their prey too, like the Timor deer, wild boar and water buffalo, as well as the chance to witness the sunset spectacle on Kalong Island as the resident colony of giant ‘flying fox’ bats fly away from their mangrove roosts to feed in their thousands.
Few areas in Asia can match the cultural and natural diversity of Indonesia’s Lesser Sunda Islands and the majestic Komodo National Park. Your Bali & Komodo Island adventure is an exploration of some of the most beautiful places in Bali followed by a leisure expedition aboard a traditional, wooden, phinisi boat, from Bali to Komodo Island.
